The Common Sense of Drinking By RICHARD R. PEABODY
|
||||||
This is not an argument either for or against the Eighteenth Amendment, but rather, an acute and personal analysis. What is the danger line between social and chronic drinking? What is the definition of "an alcoholic"? How much does inheritance - how much does environment - affect our drinking? What are the danger signals, and when is self-control of no avail? These are some of the personal problems, known to every drinker, which are here analyzed in the clear light of experience. The author first defines the causes which if uncontrolled lead to alcoholism, and then sets forth the course of cure whereby many of his patients have been set free from what may come to be a pernicious disease. Mr . Peabody has devoted a long time to the study of the personal effects of drinking. Applying his own methods of diagnosis and cure, he has built up a practice which is widely known and respected by physicians and psychologists a like. It is with such experience that he discusses a subject which is equally interesting to those who can control their drinking and to those who cannot . |
